Technical Program Manager - Backbone Engineering - Google - Sydney

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.
Using your technical and leadership expertise, you manage projects of various size and scope, identifying future opportunities, improving processes and driving the technical directions of your programs.

Responsibilities
Manage various programs of work, engage teams and engineers
Set the pace for development, deployment and delivery of networking systems and infrastructure
Develop and prepare project documentation, process maps, presentations and tracking reports to provide detailed current status of each project
Use technical judgement to drive project delivery, technology reviews, challenge proposals and build consensus
Develop and improve processes, communicate plans and achievements, and facilitate project meetings



Minimum Qualifications

BS in Engineering or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with data center operations or network deployment/engineering disciplines.
Experience coordinating and scheduling multiple projects.
Experience with managing migration-style projects; projects that involve large-scale upgrades and changes during maintenance windows.


Preferred Qualifications

MS in Engineering
Experience with network planning and process optimization.
Experience with building, integrating, delivering L2/L3 network systems is an added advantage.
Creative, self-starter who possess excellent business acumen and project management skills, and who has a strong sense of focus, organization, meticulous attention to detail and proven ability to guide others to deliver outstanding results in a timely manner.
