Job description
The Director, Collections and Global Access is a strategic role. The Director provides leadership and direction in delivering library services that connect staff and students to the global network of collections and content, enabling access to and creative use of knowledge resources. The Director oversees the Library’s information management functions, including services to acquire and manage the Library’s digital and physical collections, and the negotiation and implementation of access. The position oversees services advising the university’s academic staff and researchers in copyright, publisher relations and scholarly communication. The Director leads the development of educative and advocacy programs in relation to scholarly communications, including copyright and open access, publisher relations and licensing. The Director, Collections and Global Access is highly skilled in engaging with the key stakeholders within Deakin, as well as engaging with Deakin’s partner enterprises and communities. The Director may represent the University Librarian and Executive Director, Academic Support in forums and on committees, internal and external to the University.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Oversee the Library’s content and collections, leading the planning and development of library services providing access to global information resources for cloud and located learning and research.
Develop and implement strategic responses to a dynamic global information environment, including quality assured approaches to data management, access and rights issues.
Oversee the management of copyright programs and functions within the context of legislation requirements and minimising risk.
Research, lead and develop programs to build and transform the Library’s role within the University in improving access to and enabling creative use of scholarly information and resources.
Shape strategies that ensure long-term value and active engagement with the Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial Library and Special Collections.
Provide high-level advice to the University Librarian and Executive Director, Academic Support, contributing to the shaping of the Library’s long term and operational plans that best align with the University’s strategic imperatives.
Ensure the implementation of all University policies that relate to the areas for which the position is responsible, in particular, those relating to equal opportunity, occupational health and safety, risk management, staff development and staff performance planning and review.
Oversee the Library’s quality management strategies and processes that will ensure excellence and responsiveness in collections and services within a dynamic and global environment.
Desired Skills and Experience
ABOUT YOU
Academic degree and professional qualifications appropriate for appointment as a senior information professional, including eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
Record of achievement in library or information management in a senior role, preferably in a large complex organisation.
Significant experience in negotiating access for third party material and copyright.
Evidence of and record of leadership in planning for and implementation of change in a large organisation.
