Global Merchant Services (GMS) is the merchant network of American Express which acquires and maintains relationships with millions of merchants around the world who welcome American Express Branded cards.
This pivotal leadership role, leads a Marketing and Business Insights team that supports top Global Client Groups (GCG) and large Australian accounts.


Our unique core asset is our industry-leading global database of customer demographics which details spend behavior from the American Express network in over 125 countries worldwide. This closed loop differentiation is at the heart of our Business Insights and Marketing Solutions. The role is in the Japan & Asia Pacific (JAPA) marketing organization in GMS which capitalizes on the power of our closed loop data to deliver differentiated insights and/or marketing to top international brands to help them improve performance and capitalize on new opportunities.



The successful candidate will report to the Vice President, GMS Marketing JAPA and have a dotted line to the Vice President, Head of GCG JAPA. This role will sit on the JAPA Marketing leadership team and be a key contributor to GMS Marketing and BI strategy for this critical merchant segment globally.



As Director of JAPA GMS Marketing and Business Insights Consultation, you will:

Lead an innovative consulting team across JAPA
Identify new opportunities and grow positive Marketing and BI engagement with our largest merchants to deliver both revenue and merchant value.
Identify and support initiatives to grow the GCG and Australian JAPA business and improve acquisition, satisfaction and activation with our merchants.
Act as a key linkage to global product and effectiveness teams to execute consistent and highly effective Marketing and Business Insights programs across the JAPA and other core International/US markets.


Core responsibilities will be to:

Support the integration and growth of Business Insights and Marketing in JAPA by unlocking merchants’ marketing needs and driving the BI portfolio,
Drive analytic and information insights needs, focusing on sales strategy and delivering flawless standard and custom product execution to deepen relationships and drive repeat business.
Partnering closely with Client Management to develop strategies, solutions and go-to-market plans.


Desired Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will be/have:

Solid experience in managing global and large strategic accounts, marketing, consulting or partnerships at a senior level is essential.
Demonstrated experience in developing new business opportunities, and in executing and selling in marketing campaigns and / or insights in a B2B environment. Strong record with multi-million dollar prospect and pipeline development and management (incl tools) and high close rate.
Demonstrated deep experience of B2B and B2C Marketing, Big Data, Digital Marketing and Social Media
Proven ability to think strategically, with success in developing and implementing innovative and transformational strategies to drive significant and sustained business outcomes
Exceptional skill in driving results across a complex portfolio, able to meet or exceed aggressive targets time and time again, while ensuring seamless and flawless execution. Maintain a rigorous understanding of the performance of channels, campaigns, new capabilities, product constructs and customer segments.
Ability to execute an integrated Marketing and BI product line strategy and develop and implement market prioritization frameworks
Superior commercial and analytical skills, financial acumen, and innovative problem solving expertise.
A creative thinker that can combine best practices with new ideas to create compelling marketing programmes
Seasoned, respected people leader with known followership; able to attract and retain great talent and to lead, motivate and coach a team to ever greater levels of achievement
Experience in Asia Pacific preferred
Degree Level Minimum, MBA preferred
