The Australia Council for the Arts is seeking applications for the position of Director Theatre to join our Arts Strategy division. This is a key leadership role to commence in 2015. The successful applicant will join a prestigious team of arts practice directors who bring deep and rich art form knowledge and sector expertise to the Council’s work as a champion and investor in Australian arts.

The Director Theatre will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation and lead the Council’s sector engagement. It will also lead key projects and initiatives which support the goals of Council’s new strategic plan: “A culturally ambitious nation”.
This position requires a superior understanding of the Australian arts sector and significant expertise in the appointed arts practice area (theatre), with a demonstration of broad, established professional networks. You will be experienced in providing high level strategic advice and recommendations which directly impact upon the organisation’s activities.

Desired Skills and Experience
Essential:
Superior understanding of the Australian arts sector with extensive knowledge of the appointed arts practice area, demonstrating established and credible professional networks in the arts sector
Proven ability to use chains of direct and indirect influence to achieve strategic outcomes
Demonstrated experience in providing high level strategic advice and recommendations leading to a direct impact on an organisation’s operations and processes
Proven ability to probe issues for the relevant facts in order to identify and propose workable solutions to complex problems
Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally to attend sector events as necessary
Desired:
Degree qualifications in an arts related discipline
