The Faculty of Health Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. Comprised of eight schools and a number of disciplines, research centres and institutes, the Faculty is focused on education excellence and innovative research in the health sciences. The Faculty boasts one of the largest concentrations of leading researchers, academic teachers and clinical titleholders working across the areas of health.


The School of Population Health includes Yaitya Purruna, the Indigenous Health Unit and the Disciplines of General Practice, Public Health and Rural Health, along with a number of other research units. The School provides undergraduate and postgraduate education in health sciences, counselling and psychotherapy, public health, health economics and biostatistics. The School's portfolio of research addresses 5 of 8 areas of specific focus nominated in addition to the National Priority Areas in the current NHMRC Strategic Plan (Indigenous health, primary health care, healthy start for a healthy living, new and emerging health threats, health in the Asia Pacific region). The School also has strengths in health services research, health economics, and evidence synthesis and review.

Yaitya Purruna delivers Indigenous health curriculum and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students within the Faculty of Health Sciences. The Director will provide leadership for Yaitya Purruna, with a particular emphasis on academic leadership and strategic development of the Unit, fostering Faculty-wide collaborations in research and learning and teaching in Indigenous Health and promotion of the Unit to local, national and international organisations, industry and the local community.

Salary: (Level D) $127,063 - $139,984 or (Level E) $163,674 per annum.

Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17%

Position requirements

To be successful you should have:
A PhD or nearing completion in Aboriginal health or a cognate field
Proven track record of research in aboriginal health and/or social care, including research publications and grants
Proven skills in management and leadership of academic and research staff and students
Demonstrated ability to initiate collaborations in research and/or learning and teaching and to attract and maintain broad-based partnerships
A record of excellence in teaching in Aboriginal health or cognate areas, including experience in the development of curriculum and programs
Ability to provide academic leadership and foster excellence in professional activities and service to the University
A proven ability and commitment to mentor staff and students.
