The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is the chief academic officer of the University and responsible for the planning, quality and delivery of education to Macquarie's students. Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the DVCA provides strategic leadership for the portfolio areas of academic planning and quality; students; teaching and learning; academic staff; and widening participation. The DVCA works across the institution in enhancing academic quality, interfaces closely with the DVC (Research), and also oversees libraries.

The ideal candidate will have a distinguished record of scholarship, and a track record of leadership and change management. It is expected the DVCA will also have the capacity to make a substantial contribution to a close knit and effective senior management team in the overall direction setting of Macquarie. A knowledge of major contemporary and emerging issues in the higher education sector, particularly new technologies, should be supported by a collaborative and team oriented approach.
