Job description
General Responsibilities:

The post-holder is accountable for setting the overall business development, marketing and operational strategy for the region and has ultimate responsibility for the maximization of market penetration and profitable transaction volumes. This position is also accountable for the regional P&L and for providing strong leadership to the entire Australia and Oceania region, working collaboratively with shared services and matrix functions in addition to managing direct reports.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Develop and manage the implementation of the regional strategy, ensuring the platform is created for successful business growth in both the short and long term.
Identify and facilitate the addition of new Agents, appropriate to the strategy on appropriate commercial terms in line with the market/corporate guidelines. Accountable for the regional P&L. Works with the line manager to set, manage and ensure achievement of regional budgets. Works with regional Finance resources, to manage the budget, forecasting and financial planning processes for the region, ensuring strategic, accurate plans are put into place maximising investment and ensuring optimal short and long term financial return.
Working in strict compliance with the regulatory requirements and liaising (in coordination with the legal and compliance departments) with Austrac and other governing bodies as required.
Reviews market/agent reports and analysis as to any trends/drops in transaction levels. Identifies solutions for managing change/developing future strategy.
Building and unlocking Agent potential through establishing and maintaining key relationships within their management structure and dealing with people across all levels
Gain Agent agreement for implementation of New Products and work closely with them and NPD team to ensure a smooth roll-out.
Ensures the operations strategy and implementation thereof is timely, within company guidelines / expectations; resolution of operational and other problems through the management of key operations personnel and liaison with the relevant operations teams.
Actively monitors agent performance against market and budget and resolves any pertinent issues with the local team and agents in good time. Actively involved in agent compliance reviews and discussions.
Actively works to develop a robust year-on-year strategy, which will enable annual step change growth.
Ensure that a professional, well led and well motivated team is built, developed and continues to develop and that skills and potential are exploited to the full. Will ensure that roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and clear objectives and priorities are set in line with corporate goals. Will ensure that a ‘delivery to outcome and deadline’ culture is created and maintained within the team. Development of the team will include ensuring that succession planning is in place and that key Talent opportunities are proactively identified and auctioned.
Will ensure that an ongoing audit of resources and capability is undertaken and that areas of development or defined resource gaps are addressed. Will ensure a clearly defined succession plan is in place, working with the relevant parties.
Maintains and develops a strong culture of compliance within the region.
Works closely with the legal and compliance teams to understand the applicable legal and regulatory requirements (licensing, AML/CTF, anti-fraud, etc). Ensures compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements as well as with the company’s policies and procedures. Manages or supports as applicable the implications of any legislative change.
Attends all senior management meetings and provides input into overall MG strategic development.
Participates in key MG events within the region to raise product/brand awareness with key business partners.

SCOPE/CONTEXT:

Reports to the Executive Vice President APAC and MESA.
Territory: Australia and Oceania
Currently 14 direct and indirect reports also responsible for leading matrix functional teams within the Sydney office.
Works closely with other Directors/Function Heads/Senior personnel in the APAC and MESA region, Europe and Africa and the USA.
Ongoing travel is required, primarily within the Oceania region.
Regional designation may change subject to the needs of the business.


Skills and Experience Required:

10+ years relevant experience (the last 4-5 years being at a similar senior level) within the financial services and/or retail industries, including proven ability to establish and build teams, manage, develop and retain top talent, performance management and the ability to lead in a global matrix environment.
Demonstrated ability to comprehensively articulate what is expected from the team in terms of behaviors as well as performance against objectives. Gives feedback in a timely and constructive manner. Tackles difficult performance issues head on providing the appropriate level of support and challenge in order to resolve the situation. Makes tough decisions on performance when necessary.
Demonstrated leadership skills - breadth of knowledge/experience at a senior level of operation will have encompassed network development, marketing/sales management, financial, risk analysis and leading and developing people .
Experience within the Australia and Oceania region is essential. Some experience will ideally have been gained within a blue chip organisation and part may also have been gained in a smaller entrepreneurial organisation or start- up of a new operation/subsidiary within a larger entity. Experience will have included an international focus together with exposure to operating within a fast paced/high growth environment as well as in as strictly regulated environment. Knowledge/experience gained within financial services is essential and /money transfer experience would be highly advantageous.
Experienced in relationship management - able to demonstrate through past experience, the ability to negotiate effective and financially sound contractual relationships and deal with complex and sometimes difficult relationships at the highest level.
Proven ability to build authentic relationships based on trust and mutual respect. Works collaboratively in a cross functional context to achieve business goals. Builds and maintains relationships at all levels within the business, creating strong internal and external networks. Solution driven with the willingness and ability to implement innovative ideas and improve working methodologies. Able to breakdown complex issues into simple components and build/implement required action plans.
Excellent project management skills. Ability to determine key priorities and manage outcomes to timeline.
Considers and takes into account the impact of own decisions on all aspects of the business.
Extensive experience of managing budgets and taking responsibility for P&L. Comfortable with the review and analysis of financial information.
Computer literate - able to use Microsoft suite of packages.
Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.
Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
