The opportunity

The College for Australian Indigenous Studies (CAIS), located across our three campuses, seeks to encourage and assist the further education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in the leadership and management of the College in fulfilment of the University’s strategic and operational objects, particularly in relation to facilitating appropriate educational opportunities, equitable access and suitable student support services for the University’s Indigenous students. Reporting to the Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor, you will be responsible for the quality and performance of the College on Indigenous matters and curriculum development, teaching and learning, research, professional activities and community engagement, the viability and quality of academic offerings and associated student experience, and for planning and aligning CAIS resources and staffing with Academic Division and University strategic objectives.
Your knowledge and understanding of the historical and contemporary issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait lslander cultures and societies, coupled with an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait lslander people whilst observing and maintaining relevant protocols will ensure your success in this important role. Similarly you will demonstrate your ability to negotiate and consult in a culturally appropriate manner.
The team
The College for Australian Indigenous Studies sits within the Academic Division. The College was previously titled the Centre for Australian Indigenous Knowledges (CAIK) which has a long history of supporting USQ’s Indigenous strategies. Along with CAIS, the Academic Division includes the University’s Faculties and Campuses as well as the Open Access College, and Queensland College of Wine Tourism. The Academic Division has overall responsibility for the University’s academic program portfolio; its continuous improvement and its quality delivery. The Academic Division has a leading strategic and operational role in the policies, procedures and practices relating to learning and teaching, student experience, research and research training, and, related academic matters.

This role is based at our Toowoomba campus, located on the beautiful Darling Downs in Queensland.
