Integrated Marketing Communications Team Lead Job at Microsoft

The IMC Team Lead will be responsible for overseeing a team of marketing managers responsible for the creation and execution of marketing communications plans across the business that take advantage of all elements of the marketing mix such as online, events, advertising, electronic direct mail, and other activities.
The IMC Lead will be the primary point person managing all agency relationships and budgeting with Microsoft's global agencies of record as well as locally-hired agencies. They will also take the lead in managing the principal global advertising commercial campaign and will have oversight over other global ad initiatives.
The successful candidate will be closely involved in managing the overarching marketing communications strategy, driving coordination and integration of opportunities across the business, and liaising with key business stakeholders.

They must be strong, decisive, results-oriented leaders who can develop and manage relationships across the company and with a wide variety of stakeholders based on trust, teamwork and understanding of the implications of decisions and events.

The role will report to the Director of Central Marketing Group (CMG) and will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of two integrated marketing communications (IMCs) specialists.

Responsibility / Activity

Team Lead (15%)
Orchestrate and manage the IMC team, planning, and execution across all BGs and segments.
Make prioritisation and resourcing decisions.
Establish and build relationships with the corresponding regional and US groups in order to keep up to date on US and global programs and best practices.
Advise on appropriate communication vehicles to support campaign objectives across the subsidiary.
Build a high-performing team, provide career guidance and advice, counsel team members on day-to-day decisions.
Work with other functions within the Central Marketing Group to ensure strong coordination of resources and integration of programs and activities.

Manage ad agencies (25%)
Manage budgeting, staffing and internal client satisfaction for all of Microsoft's advertising agencies (globally and locally appointed).
Establish a clear scope of work between Microsoft and each of our agencies that defines activity covered under retainer.
Monitor retainer utilisation rates across the business and make adjustments as necessary.
Maintain a positive two-way dialogue across the business with Microsoft's ad agencies.
Drive creativity, excellent account service and management, and strong strategic counsel from each of our agencies.

Manage principal commercial global ad campaign (20%)
Act as primary day-to-day decision maker and manager of Microsoft's principal commercial campaign, funded through Microsoft's global advertising dollars.
Provide guidance and support to the IMC team member responsible for day-to-day execution.
Adapt the global media brief (GMB) for the Australian marketplace and identify creative opportunities to execute the global campaign within our local market; use GMB to develop specific brief for Australian execution.
Coordinate local message development, content strategy development, and creative concept development as necessary.
Work with Business Groups (BGs) and segments to maximise benefit of global ad campaigns across the entire business where appropriate.
Work with agencies to negotiate with media partners and maximise spend.

Oversight over all global ad campaigns (10%)
In addition to running the primary commercial campaign, maintain oversight over all other campaigns funded with global ad dollars and executed by IMC team members.
Liaise with stakeholders and provide guidance and support as necessary.
Ensure global ad campaigns maximise benefit across the entire business where appropriate.
Sign off on all creative and media plans to ensure consistency and maximise integration.

Support brand project (10%)
Work with Central Marketing Group (CMG) Director to review Microsoft's brand perception in Australia and develop programs and strategies for strengthening Microsoft's brand locally.
Marketing governance (5%)
Play key role in marketing governance and reviews designed to ensure that marketing activities are consistent with the central marketing plan and support key business objectives.
Provide advice on how additional marketing funding should be best utilised to support marketing objectives.

Marketing communications strategy (15%)
Play key role in developing overarching marketing communications strategy.
Drive coordination and integration of marketing opportunities across the Business Groups (BGs) and segments.
Liaise with key business stakeholders.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years of strong marketing communications experience with companies or clients with high visibility, engaged in highly competitive market dynamics and varied issues;
Highly-motivated, results-driven, strategic thinker with strong business/people leadership skills and exceptional communications fundamentals;
Very strong understanding and experience of marketing and advertising planning, management, execution & measurement, across all disciplines including advertising, direct mail, database strategy, events, PR, and digital.
Well-developed senior-executive level communication, presentation & influencing skills;
Strong planning, project and process-management skills;
Inspirational team leader, coach and mentor to others;
Ability to direct and supervise project teams and counsel senior management;
Combination of both in-house and agency experience desirable.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications, business, marketing or related field preferred.
