Job Description
The Director, Career and Research skills training (CaRST) is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction and management of the Career and Research Skills Training Unit. The role requires the provision of face-to-face training sessions as well as the overall management and development of on-line training to support the professional development of research students and Early Career researchers.
This newly created role will ensure that service excellence is embodied in the activities and outputs of the Unit and will build and maintain productive partnerships with all stakeholders to ensure the delivery of optimal training to research students and early career researchers across the University.
As the successful candidate, your responsibilities will include:
Assisting the PVC (Research Operations) in decision making through the provision of expert knowledge and advice in relation to the professional development and training of researchers;
Providing timely information and advice to the PVC (RO) in relation to CaRST relative to the key performance indicators specified by the DVC &VP (R);
Managing the CaRST team members including the supervision of operational matters, professional development and PDR; undertaking research and analysis and provide critical comment and briefings for the PVC (RO) on strategic and operational issues in relation to research skills and career development for CaRST researchers;
Managing the delivery of the CaRST programs to ensure services are delivered as effectively and efficiently as possible;

Continually review the suite of training offerings to ensure quality and best practice; and
Seeking new insights and innovative ways to address challenges. Creating wisdom from insights to turn knowledge into know-how.
Desired Skills and Experience
To be successful in this position, you should have:
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in providing leadership in the design, development and delivery of educational and training programs
Experience in career counselling and planning for PhDs and early career researchers
Excellent communication skills and an ability to confidently run face-to-face training sessions in diverse areas such as leadership, project management and communication as well as manage on-line training with a wide variety of colleagues both academic and professional
Demonstrated experience in conducting personality/psychological tests as a means of helping students understand their own personality types and their ability to recognise strengths and weaknesses in themselves and those they ultimately lead
Demonstrated ability to be entrepreneurial and creative
Demonstrated commitment to a customer service culture
